What is the difference between buckwheat hulls and millet hulls?

Buckwheat hulls and millet hulls are similar in the way they mold to your contours. Buckwheat is a coarser and sturdier grain than millet. It provides excellent, conforming support and maintains the elevation of your head and neck. It breathes well and keeps you cool, but it makes a slight shuffling noise as you move to find your most comfortable position. It is quiet once you are settled. It has little or no odor and is hypo-allergenic.

Millet is quiet but has a slight grassy order at first, which dissipates fairly quickly. It is more compact, yet lighter than buckwheat. It, too, provides excellent, conforming support and maintains the elevation of your head and neck.

How do I take care of my pillow?

Air your pillow in the fresh air and sunshine every month or two for about 30 minutes. The UV rays will destroy any bacteria in the fabric. If you absolutely must wash your pillow then open up the zipper and empty the hulls out into a large container. Turn the casing inside out to be sure you remove all the hulls. Then carefully remove the wool by slipping your hand underneath the piece and gently carrying it back out. Machine wash the casing gentle, cool. Tumble dry/ low. Iron the casing as desired and replace the wool first and the hulls last. (Hint: Use a large plastic soft drink cup, squeezing a spout so you can scoop and pour.)

How long will my pillow last?

Your pillow should last several years. We have one customer who is still using the pillow she purchased ten years ago! Some health practitioners recommend changing your pillow every other year. Sometime between nine months and twelve months you may notice that your pillow has less volume. This happens because the hulls rub against each other and polish their edges. You can just order some more hulls to replenish your pillow if you want more volume. You probably will only have to do this once during the life of the pillow.

What do I need to do to get a perfect fit from my pillow?

For Side Sleepers: Be sure that the wool is on top. You may want to make a slight indent in the center of the pillow for your head. Lie down and pull the edge of the pillow slightly over your shoulder for full neck support. Never use the pillow under your shoulder. Nestle into the pillow and feel it cuddle up to you. If there is an area where you want more support, take your hand under your pillow and push the hulls where you want them. If the pillow feels too high or hard then open the zipper to the hulls and scoop out a few cups at a time. If you want firmer support and more pillow height rotate the pillow a quarter turn making sure the wool top is facing you. Play with your pillow until you feel aligned and comfortable. Then, settle in for deep relaxation and restful sleep.

For Back Sleepers: Be sure that the wool is on top (Priya Pillow only.) You may want to make a slight indent in the center of the pillow for your head. Lie down and pull the edge of the pillow toward your shoulders but never under them. Nestle your head into the pillow and feel it cuddle up to you.
